WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU CURVES, FLAUNT THEM. 6 LIFE LESSONS I LEARNT IN A FIGURE HUGGING DRESS

When life gives you curves, flaunt them: Life lessons I learnt in a figure hugging dress

  1. People will stare, make it worth their while.

When we walk out of our houses looking stylish and feeling ourselves, we are greeted by a multitude of stares. Some will stare because they think you look awkward and a bit stylish but the most rewarding of looks is the look from those that stare with appreciation of good style. Because people will stare, wouldn’t it be right to just give them a show?

If I’m walking and I see that I’m going to pass a group of people in a figure hugging dress or whatever, I get ready to do the ‘cat walk’ because I know that as soon as I pass, those on the side walk will turn with me; I won’t see them but I will give them a show. It’s not vanity; it’s what comes with the territory of being a woman.

  1. Perfection is in the eyes of the one that looks in the mirror.

We are constantly being told, how fat or thin we are, how too tall or too short we are. What I say to those that want to label me is that they don’t need to say anything further because I have the best labels for myself. The only person’s opinion that matters in terms of my appearance is mine, the only one that stares back in the mirror.

  1. It’s ok to be yourself.

Being a fashion blogger I get tempted to emulate other fashion bloggers style. But, emulating another fashion bloggers style is boring and lacks creativity. I’ve learnt that the best fashion version of me is the version where I am myself. I am unique and different in every way to every person on the face of this planet, yet I have qualities similar to the same people.

I realized that I love the pictures of me smiling, more than those where I am a bit more serious, AND ITS OK.

We all cannot be Naomi Campbell, nor can we be the Desi Perkins of this world, but we can be ourselves, abundantly and fully. And no matter who you are, there will always be people that are drawn to the way you do things. Do things your way and you will be doing them perfectly, emulate and you might fail. Learning the basics of your craft then perfect it, is immaculate.

  1. Your attitude matters more than your clothes.

In this fashion Industry people are all about the outwards appearance as should be but when you have bad attitude, it doesn’t matter what you are wearing, you will just be labeled as a bitch.

During my fashion shoot in Pretoria by Klearview Media we had a couple of girls that got obsessed with my dress and wanted to find out where I got it from. As a fashion blogger, it is my duty to tell anyone where I get my dresses but no everyone is like that. I once asked a girl that wore a beautiful dress on a night out at Cubana Four ways, she was rude but I was like girl relax, it’s not that serious….

People will never remember what you said to them but they will never forget how you made them feel. #ImovedOn

  1. A girl should be two things who and what she wants.

One of my favorite quotes is, ‘a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous’ by Coco Chanel. In retrospect, a girl should be who and what ever she wasn’t.  A girl should be ratchet, fabulous, classy, trendy, in style, loving, angry and pissed and the list goes one. Enough with putting us in small boxes

  1. Confidence will take you far.

No matter how tight this figure hugging dress is, that sexiness means nothing if you lack confidence. It’s hard to watch a woman in a great figure hugging dress emit an awkward energy. A figure hugging dress should make you feel good but feeling good should start way before you pick the figure hugging dress out from a YDE store.

Confidence is what gets you employed. A woman can walk into cooperation with bare minimum skills but talks as if she has a master’s degree and years of experience. The woman that walks with confidence will get the job compared to one with a master’s degree and years of experience but lacks confidence. Believe that you are and you will be.
