Richard Loring and City property invited me to the Yael Debut Album launch, FLY AWAY. The Classical YAEL DEBUT Album launch featuring the Soweto Spiritual Singers was held at 012Central Pretoria. When I first got the invite I was a bit confused; why would an album launch be at a place where the social market is constantly held? I was expecting to be greeted by a scene similar to the Pretoria Social market but to my surprise it was very different.
City property hires out the 012 CENTRAL space out to whoever wishes to use it and it’s a fun and diverse property. We entered (Kagiso Motlhamme and I) thru the Prinsloo entrance and made our way to the event which had ambience perfect for a Sunday evening gig.
We were greeted with cocktails and light finger foods or what others call them, appetizers or hors d’oeuvres which weren’t receded by proper a meal, just more cocktails and fun.
Once all of us had had something in our tummies, then the YAEL DEBUT ALBUM LAUNCH show began. It was Lights camera action!! Yael showed up and blew us away with her dazzling blue sparky gown which she later changed to a mermaid like green dress, singing together with the Soweto Spiritual singers.
I must say, the girl has talent and exceptional vocal chords. Richard Loring, double-Platinum and Gold Record awardee, has mentored YAEL, his first protégé, to produce, together with Double-Grammy Award winner John Lindemann, a CLASSIC album of exceptional quality.
YAEL’S classically-trained voice bridges the divide between contemporary and rock music. Strongly featured on five of the album tracks are the SOWETO SPIRITUAL SINGERS, whose rich Gospel sound against YAEL’S crystal clear voice, create a culture of unity through vocal harmony. I enjoyed the classic she performed by Bon Jovi- Bed of roses, Coldplay and BONO! Soothing sounds.
To have the event at 012 Central Pretoria inner city event space was both inspiring and magical as you can see by the transformation of the place from down to earth social to a more upmarket, classy venue.
There was an exhibition of arts and craft by local designers at the YAEL DEBUT ALBUM LAUNCH and beer tasting that I didn’t engage in. But all in all it was a lovely evening of entertainment, fun and musical creativity enjoyed with my new friends Angie and Ula and of course the ever so talented Pretoria based photographer, Kagiso Motlhamme.
