Red is an attention-grabber. It literally makes our hearts beat faster. Why do you think stop lights are red? And you think the branding geniuses behind VODACOM, Spar, IDENTITY, H&M and Wimpy just picked red because it looks pretty? I don’t think so. Red is an emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear more assertive, attractive, more sexy and bold. Red cars on the other hand are popular targets for thieves, so think twice before you buy such an eye grabbing car, but if its insured… why not? In decorating, red is usually used as an accent. Decorators say that red furniture should be perfect since it will attract attention but I’ve red furniture in my house so I guess the entire room is accented… eye grabbing pieces everywhere.
Perhaps red partly makes an impact because it is so unabashedly feminine. It is hot, the colour of heat, it’s not apologetic, and it’s straightforward but by wearing red you got to have the attitude that goes along with. (Don’t mess with me, I know what I want, let’s have fun) Here you are, wearing makeup or a great pair of heels but showing assertion at the same time.
Black is the color of authority and power. It is popular in fashion because it makes people appear thinner. It is also stylish and timeless. Black also implies submission. Priests wear black to signify submission to God. Some fashion experts say a woman wearing black implies submission to men. (Maybe that’s one of the reasons Muslim women wear black Niqabs and Abayas) Black outfits can also be overpowering, or make the wearer seem aloof or evil. Villains, such as Dracula, often wear black.
White, brides wear white to symbolize innocence and purity. White reflects light and is considered a summer color. White is popular in decorating and in fashion because it is light, neutral, and goes with everything. However, white shows dirt and is therefore more difficult to keep clean than other colors. Doctors and nurses wear white to imply sterility.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could mix these colours together, using black as a base colour? Well, Red and black always go together, not too much, not too little. Black and white monochrome is also perfect and gives a slim and minimalistic look and feel. The adding of red on this dress is the perfect combination of sexy, mixed with authority and a touch of purity. Just a touch because perfection is overrated
So wear what you like, flaunt what you like, dress how you like but make sure you look immaculately awesome in whatever it is you have chosen to adorn your physical, sexy and strong body with.
