We have just gotten back from watching the Movie Get Out and I am livid!!!Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined
The whole time while watching the movie I was like ‘this actually happens!!!??? In SHOCK! At first I thought wow we can’t even date across our race anymore because of fear of what can happen, as the movie is about a white family creating slaves out of ‘broken’ black people using psychology and possible voodoo. Then I thought, but wait a minute, this movie is not about race, it’s about how a person you love and trust or your best friend will SELL you for money or personal gain.
I usually try to stay away from speaking politics or race on this blog but this movie GET OUT, got me really angry but also reminded me of certain truths about life, which I will share.
But before Get Out the movie becomes all about race and, if you haven’t seen the movie yet (DISCLAIMER : spoilers ahead), go watch it.
To jump right in, his (Chris) white girlfriend (Rose) was lying to him the whole time, pretending to love him, pretending to care about him when in actual fact, she was preparing him to die, leading him to the slaughter. She would send his personal information to her mother who is a hypnotist and psychologist and that’s how she (the mother) was able to hypnotize him the moment he stepped through the door, because she knew him already.
From the whole movie, Rose was the most evil. I mean, how do you dedicate months of your life in getting to know someone, pretend to love them and even be convincing as f^&* at it. Chris didn’t stand a chance, he was madly in love with her. And so he allowed himself to be vulnerable because that’s what people do in relationships, they open themselves to the other person.
Chris love for Rose made it simple for him to be sold to the highest bidder. The sickest part of the movie was when they put Chris picture up in his absence and started bidding for him like he was an animal. The question now is, when do you know when someone really loves you? Can you really tell someone’s intentions for you? I mean, how many times has a guy professed his undying love for a girl just to leave her after sleeping with her for the first time??? Countless. Makes me think… you think you know him until he drugs you while sleeping in his bed and you wake up in a cargo box, chained up, being shipped to another country.
GET OUT the movie is not about a white girlfriend selling her black boyfriend to the highest bidder, GET OUT the movie is about NEVER KNOWING SOMEONES TRUEST INTENTIONS.
Once upon a time: A guy came to South Africa from West Africa and fell in love with a girl from Thembisa . The girl also fell in love with him. The guy showered her with gifts and even went to her home to ask for her hand in marriage while bringing gifts to the family. He bought the family cars, groceries etc. He was the perfect boyfriend and of course, they agreed to give their daughter in marriage to him. The girl, after getting married to the guy flew with the guy to his homeland to meet is parents. While there, she passed away, some robbery. The guy informed the family and the body was arranged to come back to South Africa. When the body arrived at the airport, the police opened the casket and found that the body was full of drugs. All the organs were out etc. and the drugs were worth estimated billions.
MORALS
- A person will do what needs to be done to get the job done. The same way the girlfriend would pretend to love him is the same thing as the guy pretending to love her knowing very well what his intentions are after being in a relationship with her for about two years.
- Money is not a problem when you know you will be making sooo much more. Buying the family cars worth maybe R500 000.00 Is nothing compared to what he will make once she is dead. #So Sad
- The closest people around you are either your biggest supporter or your biggest nightmare. So who do you trust? Use your discretion? But, when a person shows you love, can you really be suspicious about him or her? Some people are just great actors, how will you know the fake?? I mean, Chris was shocked that she was also in on the game. He was totally blindsided, he didn’t see it coming.
GET OUT is a thriller and horror movie. It’s a movie about a white modern family buying slaves and using their daughter to bring these broken men to them. GET OUT is a movie about POWER. Those with money can and will do what they want regardless of who gets hurt in the process.
GET OUT is a movie about trust and asks the question, can you really know someone? GET OUT IS A MOVIE that I really don’t like because it reminded me of 12 years a slave where a free man was sold into slavery by the people he trusted.
GET OUT is a scary movie because it’s real. People are being bought and sold by their family and friends and their freedom taken away from them.
GET OUT is not about RACE, ITS ABOUT INTENTIONS. How well do you know your lover, how well do you know your friend.
