What live action Mulan means for all of us

Animated Mulan gets a Disney Live Action Mulan remake

Fearful that her dying father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan takes his spot, as a girl, living under a patriarchal regime. She perfectly impersonates a man. And goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by herĀ dragon, Mushu. She uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion. And falls in love with a dashing captain along the way.

Disney Evolving

While that is the story line in 2004, the world is evolving and Disney too. 2004 Mulan is a musical and portrayed themes like hiding your gender in order to achieve anything in a patriarchal world. How things have changed. Today we dont need to hide who we are. We embrace our individuality and we openly fight for jobs that ‘belong to us’

The Disney Live Action Mulan seems not to be a musical. And by the looks of it, will be a dramatic action thriller where Mulan will not be shying away from her femininity.

Jet Li and Liu Yifel

Live action Mulan means that for the first time Mulan will be transformed from cartoon to HD. This means that we will be able to enjoy the great acting skills of Liu Yifei along side Jet Li, not as animations. This is a perfect gig for Jet Li because the trailer suggests similarities between Live action Mulan and The Mummy Returns : Tomb of the Dragon emperor. Watch Trailer HERE

Live Action Mulan is an all Asian cast, which is different to the cast members demographic of the Mulan Animation more than 15 years ago.

An All Asian Cast

There are a few times in modern history where an all star cast wasn’t ALL Caucasian and broke records. Some of these movies include Crazy Rich Asians and Black Panther to name a few. That being said. Live action Mulan is set to break records regardless of its Cast demographics because it’s a good story that takes place in a land filled with Asian history.

I am getting my life watching the Mulan Live action trailer. While others hate it, stating that there are so many characters missing from the animation, others are loving it’s authenticity and evolution.

Mulan live action trailer is short and sweet. And not too many conclusions should be made about the entire movie based on a two minute clip. Its actually refreshing seeing snipets of the movie other than some trailers where they give away the whole story line. Then we have nothing to look forward to.

Milan will be coming to your city in 2020, something I’m not too excited about because its next year. But let’s not forget that 2020 is in 6 months. So I guess we can wait a few more months to see it.
